Cyndi Lauper, at the age of 70, has announced a farewell tour titled Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. This tour, consisting of 23 cities, will be her first major string of performances in more than a decade. The tour will include her first-ever headlining show at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will also take place at various other venues such as Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, L.A.’s Intuit Dome, and San Francisco’s Chase Center. Despite this being a farewell tour, there will be one non-arena show at Detroit’s Fox Theatre.
In addition to the tour, a feature-length documentary film titled LET THE CANARY SING will be released that explores Lauper’s extraordinary life and career. The documentary will premiere exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada on June 4. Lauper will also celebrate her career achievements with an imprint ceremony at Los Angeles’ TCL Chinese Theatre Hollywood on the same day. The ceremony will be followed by a private screening of the film along with a Q&A session.
In an interview with USA Today, Lauper expressed her excitement for the tour and documentary premiere happening simultaneously. She mentioned that the arena tour is something she hasn’t done in a long time and feels it is the perfect opportunity to thank and celebrate with her loyal fans. Lauper also hinted at what fans can expect from the setlist, promising to include pieces from her extensive career and integrate art, moving visuals, color, and design into the performances. She believes that now is the right time to give her best on the tour as she may not be able to physically do it in another few years.
The official announcement of the farewell tour comes alongside the release of the documentary film. Lauper is set to take fans on a journey through her decades-long career with a mix of nostalgia and excitement. An artist presale for tickets will begin immediately, with the general sale starting on June 7. The tour promises to be a memorable experience for fans of Cyndi Lauper, who have supported her throughout her career in the music industry. With the combination of the tour and documentary, Lauper is set to bid farewell in style, leaving a lasting impact on her fans and the music world as a whole.
